Cannon Sloop Diana

More than 200 years ago, the Viapori archipelago fleet sailed in the waters of Suomenlinna. The artillery loop was specially designed for naval warfare in barren coastal waters. It was a low-passage and heavily armed ship capable of both sailing and rowing. Today, Diana, an artillery fleet with a blue flag from the archipelago fleet, sails in the waters near Suomenlinna during the summer. Artillery loupe Diana is based on drawings by ship architect Fredrik Henrik af Chapman and old documents from the Swedish Navy’s drawing office. The vessel was built in 2010-2014 at the Suomenlinna shipyard using traditional construction materials and methods. As with her 18th-century model, Diana can sail and row. The ship’s wooden deck hides under modern technology and an electric motor.

Diana is Finland’s first electric passenger ship in the sea area. Artillery loop Diana’s construction project started in autumn 2010 and was registered in spring 2015. The ship’s operations are managed by Suomenlinna’s tourism expert Oy. During the sailing season in May-September, Diana will host public and charter sailings.
